Vet Deep Dive: The Sequel!

Helen Murray

Today's Deep Dive was the second time we offered an animal behaviour workshop in collaboration with staff from Clarendon Street Vets. Both workshops booked up within minutes of being advertised and drew on some strong interests in animals among Curiosity Hub participants and the wider home education community.

Facilitator, Anna, from the vets was excited to introduce today's group to the animals in her care after a tour of the veterinary practice. Children in today's session took Stanley the ferret for a walk, assisted with foster kitten health checks and spent some time with Africa the tortoise who inspired some beautiful artwork. They learnt about the needs of the animals they met and asked lots of great questions. We are excited that Africa the tortoise is also due to visit Curiosity Hub soon and looking forward to that.

Sensory and allergy issues were sensitively managed by Anna who also seems to have a sixth sense for both animals' and children's needs. She received glowing feedback from parents whose children wanted to be accompanied for the session (some children chose the drop off option - we try to make Deep Dive sessions as flexible as possible and decisions can often be made on the day if necessary). We really value hearing the voices of children directly too so if anyone who attended would like to have their views shared by a parent on their behalf on an evaluation form, we'd love to hear from them.

At Anna's request, we have donated her fee for today to the Waterfowl Sanctuary in Huntingdon who helped her with an injured gosling earlier this week. Thank you for another wonderful experience for Waymakers Anna!
