Street Dance Deep Dive
Exploring Movement, Music and New Interests
On 2 October, Waymakers hosted a Street Dance Deep Dive at Orchard Park Community Centre, offering young people the opportunity to explore street dance, try something new and connect with others in the Waymakers community.
The session grew out of interests that had emerged at Curiosity Hub, reflecting our commitment to creating opportunities shaped by young people's curiosity and enthusiasm. They were delighted to be joined by other interested members of the wider home education community. Our Deep Dives offer a chance to explore particular interests in more depth, with welcoming, knowledgeable facilitators who are passionate about sharing their skills.
Getting into the Groove with Chrissie
We were delighted to welcome Chrissie, an experienced dancer with a wealth of knowledge across different dance styles, to lead this introductory street dance session.
Chrissie's own dance journey began at just three years old with ballet classes. Since then, she has explored Modern, Tap, Disco Freestyle, Rock 'n' Roll, Street Dance, Ballroom and Latin dance. She has also competed across the country at both amateur and professional levels.
With her friendly and inclusive approach, Chrissie offered an opportunity for young people to discover street dance in a relaxed, supportive environment, whether they were already enthusiastic dancers or simply curious to give it a go.
Following Interests, Creating Opportunities
At Waymakers, we believe that interests are a powerful starting point for learning. Our Deep Dive sessions create space for young people to explore something that captures their imagination, discover new possibilities and meet others who share their interests.
Street dance brings together music, movement, creativity and self-expression. It's an opportunity to develop skills, experiment with different ways of moving and enjoy being active, without needing any previous dance experience.
Sessions like this are also about building connections and creating a community where young people feel welcome to participate in ways that work for them.
