Celebrating our first half term
We can't believe it's the end of our first half term already! It's been amazing - so much help and support from the home educating community as we got going. Curiosity hub has been beavering away with interests and projects arising around art, loom bands, stop animation, board games, dance and science culminating in an amazing dance performance that parents were invited to today.
Tinker Lab participants have been exploring what's been growing in the garden, planting seeds, playing ball games, reading together, building a mini zipwire and lots of lego creations. This group has been evolving in response to the needs of the community with the majority of attendees preferring a stay and play format which we'll switch to from November. Soizic is returning to her research commitments and our amazing volunteer, Sarah is joining the Waymakers team in a paid role overseeing Tinker Lab for us.
Kristy (one of our Directors and a former Play Therapist), will be joining Curiosity Hub from November to provide extra support as required. Helen has halved her hours on her education consultancy work to create more time for family, home education and to continue to develop and grow Waymakers. Ever-popular Barry has been welcoming newcomers to Curiosity Hub and has had some master-classes in chess from some of his group's participants!
On Monday at the Meadows, Charlotte and the GCSE English Deep Divers have been working on descriptive/narrative writing including pathetic fallacy, sentence structures, vocabulary, paragraphs with structure and narrative viewpoint. We've also had Deep Dive workshops from Carly and Tom on pottery and debate respectively. Carly's back soon with a glazing session and Tom with a stop animation workshop. We're also delighted to be welcoming Angela who'll be running some six-week hands on-science Deep Dives for us.
Today we signed cards to thank Soizic for helping us get up and running (she'll still be involved with Waymakers via the Steering Group though) and for a Curiosity Hub participant who we celebrate recognising their own needs for shorter sessions and more structure who is going to focus on Deep Dives from next half term instead. It's been such a pleasure getting to know all the new families and children we have met and we look forward to building on this in November's sessions.
