GUIDING VALUES

Picture
Together, our guiding values help children identify and explore their interests, always being encouraged to ask...

"What do I and others need?"

  • Playful approaches with freedom and trust - Learning happens best when we're having fun so at Waymakers we honour each other’s interests, boundaries and pace.
  • Flexibility and inclusion – creating welcoming, neurodiversity-affirming spaces for a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, and 'ways in' to learning that work in synergy with the diverse rhythms of home educators’ lives.
  • Compassion, consent and creativity – Recognising our own needs and balancing those with the needs of others with both adults and children supported to get into the Waymakers habit of practising asking themselves 'what do I and others need?' to create the conditions in which imagination, exploration and co-creation can thrive.
  • Communication and collaboration – Encouraging mutual support among families, facilitators, and children - open and honest exchanges on how we can support one another and shared responsibility for prioritising wellbeing and access to the most appropriate Waymakers sessions for each child.
  • Community and character – Fostering connected relationships across age groups and roles, developing a strong and positive sense of self, values and behaviours.
  • Agency, mastery and critical thinking - Learners will be empowered to fulfil their potential by building meaningful educational pathways as part of their wider home education journeys, developing knowledge and skills that prepare them for a rapidly changing world.

Children learn best when they are having fun. Play is the highest form of research.
- Albert Einstein (the epitome of an interest-led, self-directed learner for whom school was not a great fit)
