Deep Dive: Exploring Theatrical Masks // 10.30am-2pm // Tuesday 19 May // Cherry Hinton
What?
Come and explore theatrical masks at this drop-off workshop in which we will start with blank white masks and slowly add expression and characteristics to create our own characters. What is it like to act ‘without’ a face? How can we realistically move and express ourselves when a mask has features that don’t change? We will learn theatre techniques, skills and disciplines to bring our masks to life and end with a presentation to friends and family showing off our masks and our skills. Expect to use your body, wear a cardboard mask, do some cutting and sticking, and work with others to create characters and scenes. Theatre masks are not toys, they aren’t animal masks, superhero masks or Halloween masks – they are SO much better! Come and find out how and why.
Who?
Brought to you by much-loved local drama teacher and Waymakers Curiostiy Hub facilitator, Barry Evans (see Who We Are pages) who has been running drama workshops for home educated children in Cambridge for over 20 years. Ages 9-16. Parents welcome to stay nearby/join in as needed.
When and where?
10.30-2pm for children with any parents who wish to see the presentation invited back at 1pm with finish time of 2pm. Tuesday 19 May 2026 at Springstead Community Living Room.
